Supermarket and liquor giant Woolworths is planning a dramatic expansion of its Dan Murphy’s online business, which already has 46% of the online liquor sales market in Australia.

The new plan will see beer, wine and spirits producers have products shipped to customers from their own premises by the national courier business Nexday, which is owned by Wooworths.

Dan Murphy’s executives have been making presentations to alcohol producers across Australia, trying to lure them to become part of the new model which is termed the “Drop Ship Vendor’’ approach.

Under the new model, Dan Murphy’s intends to take a 25% slice of the retail price, plus GST, on products sold through the online business.
